The Council is engaged in collaborative studies with different scientific organisations and medical colleges of repute in the country, including Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) for development of bioactive molecules in classical Unani formulations, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for collaborative studies in Malaria, Filariasis and Kala Azar and Human Resource Development, National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), New Delhi for Intellectual Property Right (IPR) and commercial exploitation of drugs, Vallabh Bhai Patel Chest Institute, Delhi for collaborative study in bronchial asthma, Lady Harding Medical College, New Delhi for collaborative studies in infective hepatitis, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi for collaborative studies in the areas of obesity and psoriasis, Deccan Medical College, Hyderabad for collaborative studies in the areas of viral hepatitis and duodenal ulcer, Regional Research Laboratory, Srinagar for chemical study on some tribal plants of Kashmir valley, Ajmal Khan Tibbia College, AMU, Aligarh for quality control of Unani drugs, Aligarh Ayurveda and Unani Medical College, Aligarh for collaborative clinical studies, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi for collaborative clinical studies and drug development activities. Earlier, collaborative studies on Malaria with Department of Malaria, Corporation of Chennai were conducted leading to the development of Unani anti-malarial for Plasmodium vivax species. Double blind controlled trials in Filariasis were conducted in collaboration with Government Medical College, Chennai. Besides, steps are being taken to introduce Unani drugs as adjuvant therapy to improve the quality of life of terminal cases of cancer in collaboration with Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, Mumbai and also in cases of AIDS in collaboration with National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) centre J.J. Hospital, Mumbai. An MOU was signed with National manuscript mission in August 2009 in the area of preservation of UNANI manuscripts.
